Survied by her five children, three daughter in-laws

and six grand children

 

 

My mother was born in Vietnam. Though we are ethnically Chinese, she lived her early years in Vietnam, where she met and married my father. She was very much in love. He was handsome—no different than her sons. Or one could say that the looks skipped a generation, look how handsome her grandsons are.

The year was 1978

When the journey started

Three families ages from one month to 77 year old all together 31 of us boared a 40-foot long fishing boat. The boat was stranded with no drinking water and diesel fuel in the international waters. Water leaked empty from rusted water barrel and the we were forced to empty the barrel of diesel fuel to keep the boat balanced. Our prayer was answered. A Thai fishing boat came to our resue...
